RIVA Awarded Two-Year HHS Contract to Advance WomensHealth.gov and Add AI-Powered Health Information Search 

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office on Women’s Health (OWH), part of the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH), has awarded RIVA Solutions a two-year contract to maintain and modernize WomensHealth.gov. The award continues a six-year partnership helping OWH deliver accessible, reliable health information to women and girls nationwide. 

RIVA will apply human-centered design across WomensHealth.gov, pairing Drupal development with user experience design and accessibility improvements to help women and girls reach information they need faster. The work includes providing content strategy and supporting OWH’s national health campaigns. RIVA is also developing an AI-powered digital assistant that delivers plain-language, authoritative source answers drawn from six approved HHS websites, with source citations and safeguards for privacy, security, and responsible AI use. 

“People come to WomensHealth.gov looking for answers they can trust, and they often need them quickly,” said Sean Fitzpatrick, Chief Digital Officer at RIVA. “For six years, we’ve worked with OWH to keep the site reliable and accessible for those moments. This award lets us bring AI into that experience responsibly. Answers come from vetted HHS content and show where they came from, with privacy protections and oversight built in from the start. The technology is new, but the goal hasn’t changed. We want people to find the information they need, when they need it.”  

The award adds to RIVA’s work across HHS, including financial systems support for the HHS Program Support Center (PSC) and user-centered digital application development for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Through its Integrated Digital Experience (iDX) Framework, RIVA will continue connecting human-centered design, digital analytics, and technical delivery to OWH’s public health mission.
